Lee Seung gi is a South Korean singer, actor, host, and entertainer. As a vocalist, he has several hit songs, including “Because You’re My Woman,” “Will You Marry Me,” “Return,” and “The Ordinary Man.” With prominent roles in popular dramas such as Brilliant Legacy, My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho, The King 2 Hearts, Gu Family Book, You’re All Surrounded, A Korean Odyssey, Vagabond, and Mouse, he gained more recognition as an actor and grew to prominence in areas of Asia.

He is also ranked fourth on the list of the highest-paid Korean actors in 2021.He is said to have quit Hook Entertainment and started his own one-man agency, Human Made, on June 1, 2021. Hook Entertainment officially announces on June 10, 2021 that they have inked a new management deal with Lee Seung Gi, and that they would support him in pursuing independent and creative endeavors through his own one-man agency Human Made.

Lee Seung Early Life

Lee Seung-Gi was born in the South Korean capital of Seoul. He was raised in a home with his parents and one younger sister. Lee was a strong student in elementary and middle school; he was an all-rounder who excelled in sports, academics, and the arts, and he was voted president of the student council throughout his school years. He became fluent in English, Japanese, and Korean during his school years. After being discovered by singer Lee Sun-hee, he underwent two years of training before making his vocal debut at the age of seventeen.

On February 20, 2009, Lee Seung Gi got a special accomplishment award upon his graduation from Dongguk University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in International Trade and Commerce. He subsequently went on to Dongguk Graduate School, where he earned two master’s degrees in marketing, trade theory, and finance and cultural content.

Lee Seung Gi practiced for two years before making his debut on June 5, 2004, when he was 17 years old. His breakthrough song, “Because You’re My Girl,” off his debut album The Dream of a Moth, became a popular ballad in South Korea, causing a “liking older women” phenomenon.He got the Best Newcomer prize at many music awards ceremonies in 2004 with this song.

He also received the M.net KM Music Festival’s Best Male Solo Artist award in 2007 for his song White Lie from his third album Story of Separation.In 2010, he collaborated with South Korean figure skater Kim Yuna on a duet version of his 2007 song Smile Boy, which was chosen as the official 2010 FIFA World Cup commercial music in South Korea.

Seung Gi made his Japanese debut on March 6, 2012, with the release of his first Japanese album Time for Love and a song of the same name. His agency, Hook Entertainment, stated on January 21, 2016, that he would be enlisting on February 1 for his mandatory military service. He also released a new song, I Am Going to the Military, as a gift to his followers on January 21 at noon.

Lee Seung Gi Career as Actor

Lee Seung-gi debuted in MBC’s sitcom Nonstop 5 in 2004. After that, he made his acting debut in KBS’s 2006 weekend drama The Infamous Chil Sisters.In 2009, he co-starred with Han Hyo-joo in SBS’s weekend drama Brilliant Legacy as the male lead. Throughout its duration, the drama maintained its top rank in viewing ratings, with the final episode achieving a 47.1 percent viewer rating. At the 2009 SBS Drama Awards, he won the “Excellence in Acting” award, “Top 10 Stars” award, and “Best Couple” award alongside Han Hyo-joo for this drama.

Lee Seung Gi made his cinematic debut in 2015 opposite Moon Chae-won in the romantic comedy Love Forecast. Lee was cast alongside Shim Eun-kyung in the period comedy film The Princess and the Matchmaker, directed by Han Jae-rim, in July 2015. He starred in the fantasy drama A Korean Odyssey, authored by the Hong sisters, in 2017. This is his first project after joining the army.

As their second drama together, he and Bae Suzy appeared in the spy action drama Vagabond in 2019. At the 2019 SBS Drama Awards, he won the Top Excellence Award in a Miniseries and the “Best Couple” award alongside Bae Suzy for this drama. In 2021, he starred in the crime thriller Mouse among a talented cast of actors and actresses.

Lee Seung Gi Career as Host

From November 2007 through February 2012, Lee Seung Gi was a permanent member of the inaugural season of 1 Night 2 Days, a section of KBS’s weekend variety show Happy Sunday.Due to his popularity with the audience in 1 Night 2 Days, he got the Best Popularity award at the KBS Entertainment Awards in 2008. He also won the Top Excellence Host award at the 2010 KBS Entertainment Awards, as well as the Daesang award with the rest of the first season’s cast members at the 2011 KBS Entertainment Awards.

He was appointed as the host of Mnet’s reality/survival show Produce 48 in 2018.  He will appear in the second season of Netflix’s variety show Busted! in the same year.

Lee Seung Gi Personal Life

Lee Seung Gi entered Nonsan Army Recruit Training Center in Chungcheongnam-do on February 1, 2016, to begin his 21-month required military service as Korea active duty soldier. He was formally released from the military on October 31, 2017 in Jeungpyeong County, North Chungcheong Province, where he served as a military intelligence expert with the 13th Special Forces Brigade Black Panther, Republic of Korea Army Special Warfare Command.
