Ratan Tata is a former chairman of Tata Sons and an Indian industrialist and philanthropist. From 1990 to 2012, he served as chairman of Tata Group, and from October 2016 to February 2017, he served as interim chairman, and he continues to guide the company’s charity trusts.

He has received two of India’s highest civilian honors, the Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan. He is a Tata scion and also the son of Naval Tata, who was later adopted by Ratanji Tata, the son of  Jamsetji Tata, the Tata Group founder. He’s a Harvard graduate school and university College of Architecture graduate. He joined his company in 1961 after acting on the Tata Steelwork, and he was J. R. D. Tata’s apparent successor when the latter retired in 1991. In a shot to remodel Tata from a mostly India-centric corporation into a world business, he got Tata Tea to shop for Tetley, Tata Motors to shop for Jaguar Land Rover, and Tata Steel to shop for Corus.

Early Life

Ratan Tata was born in Bombay, now Mumbai, on 28 December 1937, He attended the Campion School in Mumbai till the eighth grade, then Cathedral and John Connon Schools in Mumbai, Bishop Cotton School in Shimla, and Riverdale Country School in the big apple City, where he graduated in 1955. He earned a degree in architecture from Cornell University in 1959, and in 1975, he enrolled in Harvard Business Schools seven-week Advanced Management Program.

J. R. D. Tata stepped down as chairman of Tata Sons in 1991, and he named him as his successor. When he began his new job, he encountered strong opposition from numerous company executives, several of whom had spent decades in their individual organizations and had risen to positions of power and influence as a results of the liberty to control under JRD Tata.

Ratan Tata resigned his executive powers within the Tata group on December 28, 2012, at the age of 75, and also the Board of Directors and Legal Division refused to appoint Cyrus Mistry, the 44-year-old son of Pallonji Mistry of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, the group’s largest individual shareholder and by marriage, as his successor.

Ratan Tata was appointed interim chairman of Tata Sons on the day, 2016 after Cyrus Mistry was ousted from the position. Natarajan Chandrasekaran was named chairman of Tata Sons on January 12, 2017, and he took the position in February 2017.

Ratan Tata recently said that when working in Los Angeles, he had a crush on one female. He had to return to India since a member of his family was sick, but the girl’s parents refused to let her accompany Tata. As a result, Tata stayed faithful to his word and never married.

Ratan Tata is a  famous donor in India who supports education, medical, and rural development.
